BMT Summer Workshop

One Summer of Broadway-style musicals. One summer of pure fun.

Since 1992, Bakersfield Music Theatre has provided quality musical theatre training to students ages 6 to 18. Summer workshop helps build core abilities that will advance students in the entertainment industry and beyond. Rehearsals are held at the Stars School of the Performing Arts located at 2756 Mosasco Street, Bakersfield, CA 93312. Performances are held at the historic Masonic Auditorium located at 1920 18th Street, Bakersfield, CA 93301.

What to expect:
  • Singing, dancing, and acting training — for beginners to pros! Every student will be challenged and take away valuable performing, public speaking, and social skills.
  • Every role is a starring role! We focus on ensemble building and making sure every student has a chance to shine.
  • Our staff is made up of professionals in performing arts and education.
  • With Stars Theatre Restaurant as a resource for sets, costumes, lights, and props, and the Masonic Auditorium as our grand stage, our summer musicals are the highest quality you’ll find in Bakersfield.

About the Show
The jack-of-all trades, Bert, introduces us to England in 1910 and the troubled Banks family. Young Jane and Michael have sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep. Using a combination of magic and common sense, she must teach the family members how to value each other again. Mary Poppins takes the children on many magical and memorable adventures, but Jane and Michael aren't the only ones upon whom she has a profound effect. Even grown-ups can learn a lesson or two from the nanny who advises that "Anything can happen if you let it."

About the Show
It’s the first day after winter break at East High. The Jocks, Brainiacs, Thespians and Skater Dudes all find their cliques. Basketball team captain and resident jock, Troy, discovers that the brainy Gabriella, a girl he met singing karaoke on his ski trip, has just enrolled at East High. The couple causes an upheaval when they decide to audition for the high school musical. Although many students resent the threat posed to the "status quo," Troy and Gabriella’s alliance might just open the door for others to shine as well.

About the Show
With charm, wit, and heart, You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown explores life through the eyes of Charlie Brown and his friends in the Peanuts gang. This revue of songs and vignettes, based on the beloved Charles Schultz comic strip, is the ideal first show for those who would like to do a musical. Musical numbers include “My Blanket and Me,” “The Kite,” “The Baseball Game,” “Little Known Facts,” “Suppertime,” and “Happiness.” Guaranteed to please audiences of all ages!
